Dancing is a cross-cultural form of expression. We dance to show joy and happiness, to celebrate life events and milestones, and to feel connected to one another.  Outside of expression, dancing also has physical and cognitive benefits that often outweigh many other forms of exercise.


Evidence for the health benefits related to dance are incredible. Studies from Harvard University have demonstrated that regular dancing builds muscle, increases bone density, reduces fat, increases aerobic capacity, lowers blood pressure, and improves the ratio of “good” to “bad” cholesterol.  Moreover, by incorporating music, dance improved mental health.  While dancing activates sensory and motor circuits, music stimulates the brain’s reward centers.  Dancing improves balance, gait, and quality of life in people with Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders.


Benefits from dancing are incredible and merit consideration by everyone.
